Copa Star Introduces a New Concept in Hospital Design

In October 2016, the most luxurious hospital in Rio de Janeiro was inaugurated. From afar, Copa Star looks like a 5-star hotel, but take a closer look, and you will get a different picture.

Copa Star has introduced a new concept in the hospital architecture. They have combined comfort, elegance and technology in perfect unison. Rede D’Or Sao Luiz invested R$400 million for the construction of the seven-story hospital. Even though they cater to all patients, the hospital mainly focuses on providing solutions for the neurology and cardiology departments.

When you walk into the hospital, the first thing that will attract you is the lobby. They have included a grand piano, fabulous décor and furniture and captivating artwork from Yutaka Toyota- a famous artist from Japan. The hospital also has a restaurant that you can use to get access to various cuisines. The hospital does not only cater to you but also your family.

As you walk down the hallway, you will notice the hospital ceiling that permits natural lighting that illuminates the hospital and also provides warmth. They have also installed over 200 art pieces displayed in the hospital.

Copa Star Hospital seats on a 21,000 square meters and it has 223 rooms: 155 patient suites, 59 Intensive Care Units, and nine operating rooms. The hospital includes the use of robotic medicine in the operating rooms. These rooms are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment that enhances the delivery of treatment.

Copa Star is one of the hospitals that have included the use of the iPads in the patients’ rooms. These iPads come with an app installed. The patients can easily control the functions of the room using the device. They can also video conference their doctor. The doctors, in turn, can send the results to the patients.

In an effort to reduce loneliness amongst the patients in the Intensive Care Units, the hospital has installed big screens. The screens will be displaying real-time images from the streets using the cameras that are installed in the buildings. The management has indicated that they will install other cameras near the beach for the patients to get a view of nature.

The hospital has over 550 staff members 113 of them are doctors. The team members are registered and licensed to serve you. The nurses and also doctors undergo through a 2-month training program that provides them with knowledge and skills to handle the different situations. They are also given information on how to manage and take care of the patients regardless of the condition.

Rede D’Or Sao Luiz are planning to build other similar hospitals in the different areas in the State of Brazil starting with Brasilia and Sao Paulo. Read more at SSC Magazine about Copa Star.

    The face of medical tourism will soon take a new dimension with even presidents now promoting the idea for health abroad. Hear of college essay editing making an article about it as seen in the Economist of London. I think the Nigerian president should not be sold this idea of health sector because it could increase the countries debt profile even more.
