The Academy of Arts University Features its Graduates at New York Fashion Week

The Academy of Art University, formerly known as the Academy of Art College, is located in San Fransisco, California. It was founded in 1929 by Richard S. Stephens who was a painter and editor. Today, it is known as the largest private art and design school in the country. Many of its students have gone forward to find great success in their careers.


They have a very impressive list of alumni as well as staff. Some of its previous students include Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag of the Hills, Raven Symone, and Rick Baker who won an Academy Award for hair and makeup in the film Maleficent. The university is dedicated to cultivating creativity within its students and helping them to express their creativity in new and incredible ways.


Many individuals have found their distinct styles and design individuality within the walls of the college. They foster a creative and intellectual environment that allows students to thrive. The university also owns the Academy of Art University Automobile Museum. The museum features 200 vintage cars that are worth over $70 million.


New York fashion week has become a platform for aspiring and talented fashion designers to promote their products and gain name recognition. The School of Fashion at the Academy of Art University recently held a runway fashion show on September 9, 2017, to debut some of its best students and their awe-inspiring work. The show was held at the Skylight Clarkson Square, the epicenter of style during fashion week. The students featured were recent BFA and MFA graduates. Their task included creating both men’s and women’s wear as well as collaborations. Their work was diverse and represented the personalities and cultures of each designer.


Their pieces were very well received by the audience which included some very impressive and influential individuals within the realm of fashion including Ms. J Alexander who was a featured cast member of America’s Next Top Model. Displaying their designs to such a broad audience as well as having them live streamed all over the world, is sure to have a drastic and lasting impact on their careers. There’s truly no better place to jumpstart their careers and generate interest in their ideas. One the featured designers included Hailun Zhou from Qing Dao, China, who created masterpieces made of PVC and vinyl. Another featured designer was Eden Slezin from the Bay area, who focused on vintage denim and individuality.
